It Started Because Nobody Was Making This Stuff Anymore

Walk into most home decor stores and you'll find a wall of grey. Grey frames, grey vases, grey everything. Meanwhile, the era that actually knew what to do with color - the sunburst clocks, the atomic starbursts, the amber and avocado and harvest gold - got left in the past.

So we started making it again.

Retro Layers exists to bring back the shapes, patterns, and palettes of the 50s through the 70s: the boomerangs, the atomic ovals, the space-age curves. Not reproductions of old products, but original designs built in that spirit, for walls and shelves and desks that live in the here and now.

Why "Layers"?

Because that's literally how it's made.

Every piece is 3D printed - built up in fine layers on 3d printing machines, right here in the USA. That layering isn't something we hide. It catches the light, gives every surface a subtle texture, and means each design gets built fresh rather than pulled off a pallet in a warehouse.

It also means we can do things injection molding can't. Deep relief. Sharp geometric edges. Two-tone color transitions. Shapes that would cost a fortune to tool for a factory run but take us an afternoon to prototype.

Nothing Sits in a Warehouse Waiting for You

Your order isn't pulled from a shelf. It's made after you place it, in the color you picked, then inspected and packed by an actual human being who cares whether it arrives in one piece.

That's slower than two-day shipping from a mega-warehouse. It's also why every piece comes out clean, why we can offer nineteen different colorways instead of three, and why we can keep designing new things instead of guessing what to stockpile.

Nineteen Colors. Not Boring.

We didn't pick these at random. Every color in the lineup is period-correct - pulled from the appliances, album covers, kitchen tile, and station wagons of the era.

Harvest gold. Avocado. Atomic orange. Turquoise. Walnut. The greens that shouldn't work but do.

I've spent years down the rabbit hole of mid-century design - not just the famous furniture, but the everyday stuff. The clock in the kitchen. The pattern on the wallpaper. The lamp nobody photographed because it was just a lamp. That's the material I keep coming back to, and it's what ends up in the shop.
